Watched the 2004 remake of the horror classic "Dawn of the Dead" this weekend. Pretty well done for an entertaining flick. An interesting scene -

After discovering the undead aimlessly wandering the parking lot of the hugh shopping mall, non-zombie Francine asks her boyfriend Stephen, "What are they doing? Why do they come here?"

Stephen replies, "Some kind of instinct. Memory. What they used to do. This was an important place in their lives."

Cool. Look harder, you might spot a zombie in these photos.

I am starting to enjoy shooting this series - I truely believe this opens up a whole new world for my photographic pursuance. Mundane stuff/scenes around us, the "democratic colors" as Eggleston put it, actually mean a lot more than they look if we look closer with a curious mind.

I drove by the Shaw's in my neighborhood late afternoon that day, the lighting was good, a couple kids were riding the coin-op horses. I pulled my car into the lot, the kids were gone by then, all thats left are just the coke machines, carousel and a puddle.

  • A new documentary called "End of Suburbia" (http://www.endofsuburbia.com/) seems to be an interesting pick for all postmodernists. While it's so true that the current way of American suburban life style will not last forever due to limited natural energy resources, SUVs are regardless still the dominant force on the road of American suburbia. Oh well, since none of us is gonna see the day of oil depletion, I guess nobody really cares.

A Sunday cruise to the Whalom park (www.whalompark.com) turned out to be dissapointing - "no trespassing" signs all over bush-covered barbed-wired fences. I know the park is dying but didn't expect it die like taking a bullet through the heart.

Anyway, so I emailed Mark, the owner of that web site about the possibilities of doing a documentary project on the park. Yesterday must be my lucky day - it turned out not only has he the key to those gates, next weekend he'll be in town!

    I rock.
